Multigenerational homes command 65% price premium

Nearly 4 million U.S. households now span three or more generations, driving demand for multigenerational homes with features like in-law suites. These homes have a median list price of $709,000, 65% higher than standard homes, and sell as quickly despite the premium. Western metros, especially in California, have the highest share of such listings. In constrained markets like Detroit and Cleveland, multigenerational homes command steep price premiums and attract significantly more interest. The trend reflects rising housing and childcare costs encouraging co-living.
